Victor Vercouillie Springs a Surprise on the VAM-berg

With five cobblestone sections and four laps on the final circuit at the VAM-berg, the stage in Drenthe proved to be a demanding challenge. It is all the more impressive, therefore, that the early breakaway managed to stay away. 23-year-old Vercouillie spent the entire day at the front, accompanied by his compatriots Ceriel Desal and Tars Poelvoorde, as well as Dutch riders Rick Ottema and Julian Vergouw. It is a fine reward for Vercouillie’s team, which is competing in its final race here at the Eneco Tour.
Top 3 of the stage

1. Victor Vercouillie – Team Flanders – Baloise

2. Ceriel Desal – Soudal Quick-Step

3. Tars Poelvoorde – Lotto Intermarché

Victor Campenaerts retained the orange leader’s jersey, while the red jersey for the most combative rider went to Rick Ottema. Jakob Söderqvist will continue to wear the blue jersey for the points classification into the final stage in Gelderland. The youth classification is currently led by Steffen de Schuyteneer.
